Hi there!
Got another interesting campus royalty for you all today on Campus94.
Let's meet Him.
Agabzy Entertainment is the brain behind Comedy Invasion 1 and is also the brain behind the upcoming Comedy Invasion 2.
Campus 94 caught up with this entertainment powerhouse popularly known as MC Agabzy and below are the excerpts:
Campus 94:
Good Afternoon Agabzy. Please let's meet you.
MC Agabzy:
My name is Apeji Agagu also known as MC Agabzy. I'm from Edo state, Akoko Edo to be precise. I'm from a family of five and I'm the first born and the only boy.I grew up in the northern part of the country. I attended Vintage Primary School and Ojota High School. I'm an Entertainer. This includes Comedy, Anchoring and other acts but not singing. I anchor Campus Cafe on Uniben fm. A lot of people don't know this but I bake cakes and decorate professionally. I'm also the owner of Agabzy Entertainment which is the proud organizer of Comedy Invasion 1& 2. I love meeting people too.
How did this entertainment thing start for you?
MC Agabzy:
Growing up, I realised I was a talkative. I talk a lot. So I decided to make a living out of it. I was a science student in secondary school. I was doing very well in the science department. But as luck would have it, I found it difficult to gain admission to study medicine. Meanwhile, a teacher of mine told me that I was going to be an Arts student later on. Having tried to gain admission to read medicine to no avail, I decided to go for Arts. I filled in Mass Comm for Uniben and I got in once. While growing up, I was doing stand up comedy and going for shows. So that was how entertainment started.
Campus 94:
How was the idea of Comedy Invasion gotten?
MC Agabzy:
Before I got into the University, I always planned on doing my own show and it was going to be a comedy show. This is because I love comedy. It's my life and basically my first love as an entertainer. I loved and still love making people laugh. On this basis, the plan for Comedy Invasion 1 was hatched.
Campus 94:
What were the obstacles faced during the planning of Comedy Invasion?
MC Agabzy:
There were really no obstacles faced. In terms of finance, I had to discipline myself by saving up for the show because I wanted to finance it independently. My friends/ organizing team also helped. The team consists mainly of Ebor Efe, Ibigwei Kenneth and Arinze Chukwu Obinna so basically it was fun.
Campus 94:
How was the reception of Comedy Invasion 1?
MC Agabzy:
The reception was massive. I was the youngest person in terms of level to have organised a show on this campus. It was the first show someone broke a leg too. All in all, it was fun and I really appreciated the turn out. The hall was full and people were even standing. It was huge.
Campus 94:
So how is Comedy Invasion 2 going to be different from Comedy Invasion 1?
MC Agabzy:
It's going to be a typical stand up comedy show. It's not going to be like the regular Ekenwan Campus show. The setting of the show is going to be different and it's going to project stand up comedy. For more information, just come and see on that day.
Campus 94:
How do you balance/ manage your schooling and your career?
MC Agabzy:
Honestly it's not easy to balance those two because they are each pressing and important. But I've learnt to manage my time and plan my schedule. The primary aim of being in UNIBEN is to acquire knowledge, everything else is secondary. Because of this, there is a certain time you'll bring a show or a job to me and I won't do it and at some other times, I'll be happy to. This way, school doesn't clash with my career and vice-versa.
Campus 94:
Were your parents always supportive of your career?
MC Agabzy:
My parents have been supportive of my career. My mum couldn't understand why I chose comedy as a career at first but as time went on, she became more supportive than anyone else. Before I lost my Dad, he said I could be anything but he just wanted me to go to school. My mum even calls me and tells me jokes she has heard and that means a lot.
Campus 94:
What is/are your watchword(s) and the philosophies you live by?
MC Agabzy:
Okay, firstly I can't afford to fail. I despise failure. I work very hard to avoid failure. I'm a go-getter. I believe the only person that can stop me is me. I believe talent is good but creativity will take you far. We all have talents but creativity distinguishes us from one another. I believe so much in hard-work because it is the antidote to failure. Also hard-work crowned with prayers will take you anywhere.
Campus 94:
What are your plans after school?
MC Agabzy:
I plan to have one of the biggest comedy companies/brands in the world. I plan to take the world by storm and conquer it. Nigeria and Africa has been conquered already. I also plan to do my Masters degree.
Campus 94:
How do you cope with attention?
MC Agabzy:
I've always loved being popular. I've always loved attention. If I walk into a place and I'm not noticed, I'll probably go out and walk back in (laughs). But then attention has always been a part of me so it's no big deal.
Campus 94:
Have you ever received any special treatment because of your status?
MC Agabzy:
Yes of course I have. A lot of times when situation just calls for it, I get away with most things. Like when I'm at the ATM, someone might spot me and allow me to use before him/her but that would not happen if I wasn't Agabzy.
