"FRIENEMY" (friend-enemy)
I laughed in madness and cried out to my friends, "celebrate with me little ones!" I felt a hand touch on my shoulder. It was Martha, my friend, roommate and companion especially through these hard times. She said to me with a calm voice, " you've lost your soul to the troubled world of thought".
"Shut up Martha! My soul is encompassed with gladness.” I placed her hands on my chest. "Can you feel that?" I then turned back to my friends. "Dance fellas! Dance!"
With a sigh, she said, "Rebecca stop! It's not the end of the world. You can't just keep on talking to non existent beings! You may be depressed but not crazy".
I turned around with a smirk.
***********
"He is my friend and he brings some other boys to play with me.” I replied my psychiatrist. "He let me live baby!" I said again rolling my head while he whispered something in Martha's ears. " Let’s face facts, madness has strengthened my veins!" I said turning to Martha and at the same time stylishly but yet quickly taking the knife behind me. With furious eyes like that of a wild animal whose prey just escaped I turned quickly and slit his throat. I walked to Martha who was in dead shock and cleaned the bloodstained knife on her face.
" I told you he let me live." In astonishment, she stammered the words, "SSS-O
Y-OU'RE NOT MAD?" I broke down in tears and said to her, “ for many years I let myself believe that you killing my husband was a mistake and fought within my heart to forgive you but you kept on pretending to be nice just to kill me and take the money".
I moved so close to her that I could feel her heavy breathing. "Some friend you are". I pierced the knife slowly into her heart and said to her, " this was how you pierced my heart when I found out that I couldn't even trust you".
I turned to the psychiatrist with a finger on my lips, "shhhhhh".
The End

The Epitome of Lies
That Tuesday evening was when I discovered what life really entailed. I woke up that morning without the usual glee. Something I could not explain was wrong with me; I just felt so heavy. I clung to my pillow, I stared at the roof; I said no morning prayers because I did not really believe in God. I felt He was for the poor and needy; as the first daughter of Governor Oparaji; I lived a life of "heaven on
earth".
Little did I know there was more to life . As I rolled on my bed lazily, I suddenly remembered I had to meet with Fred, my boyfriend. We were supposed to proceed with our visa arrangements that fateful morning. My father was not in support of the relationship; so Fred and I planned to run away to where we would live "happily, ever after", I thought.
Considering the fact that I was behind schedule I rushed out of my room without looking at the mirror.
"Chichi how do I look?," I asked our little maid.
"Buriful", she replied as usual.
Fortunately for me, I glanced at a side mirror and discovered my face was like a clown! I quickly adjusted my make up and pondered on how Chichi would have made me go out in a 'mess'.
So that was how she deceived me daily, telling me I was 'buriful' ; perhaps because I was her oga's daughter. I shook my head.
I had limited time so I just rushed out of the house; promising myself that I would 'deal' with her when I returned. As I drove my 'Ferrari', heads turned in turns as usual. I arrived Fred's flat and got the shock of my being.
Fred had moved out of his apartment without any trace. A nearby 'mallam' popularly known as 'Awilo' walked up to me and blabbed, "kai! Fred don park ooo, na 419 guy, sharp guy".
He winked at me and went back to his shop. I had given Fred over two million naira; for the first time in my life I felt that kind of pain 'the masses' experienced whenever my father, a bloody politician threw their trust down the drain.
I do not know how I got home without any accident but all I know is that; as I approached my room, I heard what seemed like a quarrel coming from my parent's room.
"Let us tell her the truth,” my father's voice echoed.
"You mean we should tell Pearl we are not her real parents"? My 'supposed' mother retorted.
That was the climax of it all. I came 'home' to find solace, only for me to discover my whole life was soaked in the pool of lies. With the remaining strength in me, I pushed the door open; my whole body trembled, words unspoken remained locked inside of me; only my bulgy eyes shouted silently, as I sat on the floor to listen to the story of my life.
The End.
