The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) recently threatened to to embark on a strike due to the state of the country and it's negative effect on the Nigerian masses. In solidarity with NLC, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on an indefinite strike effective from the 18th of May 2016.
Apart from the hike in fuel prices, ASUU also sighted other important reasons for the strike action. These reasons are ;
- Disguised retrenchment of workers in the name of verification exercise.
- Delayed partially paid and unpaid salaries.
- Heavy taxation by the government of the country.
- Increase electricity tariff.
ASUU went ahead to advice it's members and students alike to strictly adhere to the strike by ;
- Abstaining from teachings
- No statutory meetings
- No examinations
- No project supervision. etc.
Well they should all come to an agreement soon enough so we can all go on about our lives peacefully. I want to graduate on time abeg.
