Human Rights Watch makes shocking accusation against Buhari government

Kenneth Roth, the executive director of Human Rights Watch, through his Twitter account alleged that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is hiding Amina Ali Nkeki, the rescued Chibok girl.

He wrote:

The organisation asked if the rescued girl is detained:”Nigerian authorities should clarify Amina’s present legal status. Is she a detainee? On what charges? Is her isolation, along with her mother and baby, of her own free will or forced by authorities?”

Nigerians reacting to the development supposed that the whole abduction saga was a manipulation:

AP reports that the Defense Ministry spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, said that Amina’s privacy needs to be protected.

He said: “Nobody is hiding anybody. We have to safeguard her and give her all the necessary security for her to recuperate well. … As soon as everything is sorted out, Amina would be made accessible.”

The vigilantes found the girl in May wandering on the fringes of Boko Haram’s Sambisa forest hideout with her 4-month-old baby and the child’s father, a Boko Haram members who she said helped her escape.

Amina was flown to the capital, Abuja, where she met with President Buhari. The Bring Back Our Girls group claimed that no one has seen the girl since.

Since Buhari’s inaugurations in May 2015 the Nigerian army has freed thousands of Boko Haram captives as they have resized large swaths of territory where the sect had declared an Islamic caliphate.
