Kaka Ruled Out Of Brazil’s Copa America Squad

Brazilian midfielder Kaka has been ruled out of the Copa America after being drafted in after Douglas Costa was ruled out.

After playing in Brazil’s 2-0 friendly victory over Panama Sunday, Kaká and teammate Fabinho reported discomfort to the team’s medical staff. An Orlando City spokesman said Kaká trained inside Tuesday and did not train at all Wednesday before his replacement was announced.Coach Dunga needed to make a swift decision as his final 23-man roster for the tournament must be set by Friday. Brazil makes its Copa debut Saturday at 10 p.m. against Ecuador at the Rose Bowl in California.

Kaká has battled muscle injuries the past few months, which caused him to miss five Orlando City games. A muscle strain ended his hopes of competing for the national team last year as well. This tournament likely was one of his last chances to play for Brazil. He will be replaced by 26-year-old São Paulo FC midfielder Ganso.
