After arresting him on May 5, 2017, the DSS said Ubah's action amounted to economic sabotage.
The Department of State Services (DSS) has released Ifeanyi Ubah on Tuesday June 20, 2017, five weeks after he was arrested over an alleged diversion of petroleum products worth N11bn.
Report of his release was disclosed to The Cable by an aide to the managing director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Ikechukwu Onyia.
After arresting him on May 5, 2017, the DSS said Ubah's action amounted to economic sabotage, with "capacity to negatively impact on national economy".
The product worth N11 billion kept in Ubah's custody by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was reportedly said to have been converted into personal use by the businessman.
The missing petroleum products resulted in the dismissal of Esther Nnamdi-Ogbue, Managing Director, NNPC Retail Ltd; Mr. Alpha P. Mamza, Executive Director, Operations, NNPC Retail Ltd; and Mr. Oluwa Kayode Erinoso, Manager, Distribution, NNPC Retail Ltd.
