New research indicates regular smoking of weed has its health benefits.
Is it possible for weed to make people slimmer?
Over the years, the general belief that people who smoke weed tend to be slim. Pop icons Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Snoop Dogg and rap star Wiz Khalifa who are known for their weed consumption are skinny as broomsticks.
Now, there is scientific data of sorts to suggest that smoking weed can make you slimmer. Latest research from Oregan Health and Science University (OHSU) shows that people who smoke cannabis five times a month have a lower body mass index when compared to non-smokers.
"Heavy cannabis users were more likely to have a lower BMI" according to research. Body mass index "is a person's weight in kilogrammes divided by the square of height in meters. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness" according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The OHSU research puts forward the claim that frequent smokers of weed have a tendency to be more physically active than people that don't.
Weed also has its health benefits according to related research, In 2016, Isabelle C. Beulaygue who conducted a research for the University of Miami said "here is a popular belief that people who consume marijuana have the munchies, and so [they] are going to eat a lot and gain weight, and we found that it is not necessarily the case."
On May 9, 2017, Pulse Gist published an article on Nigerian women smoking more weed which was part of a worldwide trend.
Weed has now become the drug of choice for Nigerians 18-35.
