Cowboys Rookie Jourdan Lewis Found Not Guilty Of Domestic Violence

Cowboys rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis was found not guilty today of domestic violence by a jury in Ann Arbor, Mich. Lewis had been accused of dragging his then-girlfriend across the floor, then putting his hands around her neck after a fight about bills earlier this year. The four women and two men on the jury deliberated for about an hour, according to MLive.com. Afterward, Lewis told reporters that he was “elated.”
The trial started yesterday with jury selection and opening statements. All of the testimony came today, with the woman, her mother, and the police officers who responded testifying. Lewis did not testify. The woman spoke today in court about why she called the police that night, per Mike Persak of the the Michigan Daily.




During cross examination, Lewis’s lawyer focused, as expected, on pointing out inconsistencies in what she had said.



The rest of the day’s testimony came from the woman’s mother and officers who went to the scene. The mother said that her daughter and Lewis fought a lot about money, “Since the beginning of their relationship.” One officer talked about arriving on scene and interviewing the woman and Lewis.






A second officer who responded to the scene testified followed by showing the jurors video footage of Lewis speaking with officers.







Lewis is expected to join up with the Cowboys, who have been busy this week trying to explain why they cut a player who mistakenly was charged with shoplifting that he didn’t do.
