Mets first baseman Lucas Duda was traded to the Tampa Bay Rays today in exchange for reliever Drew Smith. The Mets are nine games out of the second wild card spot, so it makes sense for them to be sellers before the trade deadline.
However, Duda has been with the Mets organization since he was drafted a decade ago and he’s one of the most popular players in the clubhouse. Evidence for this conclusion comes in the form of popular Instagram account @wefollowlucasduda, a serial microblog maintained by Curtis Granderson and a few other Mets that documents Lucas Duda’s every day comings and goings in the clubhouse. Their latest (and perhaps last) post is a sad gem.
Poor Curtis. Maybe they can start @wefollowdrewsmith in Duda’s stead.
