Ex-Coach Files Counter Claim Against Penn State, Cites "Intolerable" Working Conditions

One day after Penn State sued former defensive coordinator Bob Shoop for allegedly breaching his contract, Shoop filed a countersuit. According to a counterclaim filed in U.S. Middle District Court in Pennsylvania on Thursday, Shoop left the job due to “intolerable” working conditions.
From the counter claim:
The counterclaim did not specify what was intolerable.

As we reported Wednesday, Penn State sued Shoop for nearly $1 million dollars, claiming he breached his contract by accepting a defensive coordinator job at Tennessee in January 2016, more than two years before his three-year contract with Penn State would expire. Shoop’s contract stipulated that unless he was leaving his defensive coordinator position to take a head coaching job, an early departure would mean he had to pay back 50 percent of his base salary. His salary was $1.5 million a year. In its lawsuit, Penn State was seeking $891,856 in base salary, interest, and court fees.
