Woman Misses Out On $1 Million Prize Thanks To This CFL Penalty

Karen Kuldys of Winnipeg was lucky when she was selected in a local supermarket promotion to be in placed to win $1 million if two kickoffs were returned for touchdowns in last night’s CFL matchup between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Toronto Argonauts. Kuldys was very lucky when the very first kickoff of the game was taken back for a second. Kuldys appeared very, very, lucratively lucky when Toronto’s Martese Jackson sprung free in the second quarter for what looked like the second touchdown she needed for their money.

Kuldys was very unlucky when the score was called back on a penalty:

The Argos’ Llevi Noel was flagged for an illegal block, and, oh man, poor Karen.
“My heart just sank and I thought, ‘Oh my God, how close could I get to one million dollars,’” the Winnipeg resident said. “You got to be kidding me. My stomach is in knots just thinking about it right now.”
Karen’s husband Stan told the CBC it was a bad call:
“That should have been a touchdown,” he said. “I need to get in touch with the CFL. The guy was eight yards behind the guy running into the end zone. And the Bomber guy fell on his own.”
A needless penalty for Noel to take, but no official is going to see him make contact like that before a player goes sprawling and not throw a flag.

The Blue Bombers won 33-25 to move to 2-1 on the season. Not that Karen cares, I bet.
