The Indians and the Red Sox are in the middle of a thrilling shootout at Fenway, but Cleveland center fielder Austin Jackson was at least able to prevent one additional run from getting on the board. With Cleveland leading 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth, Jackson went over the bullpen wall to rob Hanley RamÃrez of a lead-off homer.
As the New York Times’s Tyler Kepner pointed out, Jackson’s unforgettable grab calls to mind Torii Hunter’s failed bullpen-flipping catch on David Ortiz’s 2013 ALCS grand slam. The stakes were clearly lower for Jackson’s catch, but the fact that he was successful makes his play a legendary highlight.
