Florence Omagbemi: Super Falcons boss nominated for FIFA Women’s Coach of the Year award

Omagbemi in December 2016 led the Super Falcons to their eighth Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) title.

Coach of the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Florence Omagbemi, has been nominated for FIFA Women’s Coach of the Year award.

Omagbemi in December 2016 led the Super Falcons to their eighth Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) title.

 

Her team, the Super Falcons of Nigeria won the Women’s National Team of the Year award at the GLO-CAF Awards on in January 2016.

The 2016 AWCON title was Nigeria's second consecutive AWCON win and their eighth since the maiden edition of the competition in 1998.

 

With that title, Omagbemi became the first woman to win the AWCON as a player and a coach.

As a player, Omagbemi won the AWCON on four occasions in 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2000.

 

She began her coaching career with several American based youth teams, before being called up to be the assistant coach for the Nigeria women's national under-20 football team, Falconets.

 

The former Nigeria international will compete with nine other coaches to win the award which will be announced at the 2017 FIFA Best Awards.

Voting for the award starts on Monday, August 21.
