Nothing goes better with tortilla chips than guacamole.
Not only does guac taste delicious, but it has healthy fatsand antioxidants as well—something your go-to nacho cheese sauce doesn't. But the chip dip's ingredients are pretty standard, leaving you wanting something a bit more flavorful.
That's exactly where this strawberry-habanero recipe comes in. It adds tanginess and heat, making this the perfect snacking option.
What You Need:
3 ripe avocados, seeded and peeled
1/2 medium red onion, chopped
1/2 fresh habanero. stemmed, seeded, and finely chopped
1 1/2 tsp lime zest
1/2 tsp orange zest
2 Tbsp lime juice
1 Tbsp orange juice
3 Tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped
2/3 cup ripe strawberries, chopped
1 tsp salt
How to Make It:
Cut the avocados in half, running a knife around the pit from top to bottom. Twist the halves in opposite directions to release the pit. Scoop the flesh from each half into a large bowl. Using a potato masher, a large fork, or the back of a spoon, mash the avocados.
Strain the onion under cold water and then add it to the avocado, along with the habanero. (Tip: You might want to wear latex gloves when handling the super spicy habanero.)
Add the lime zest, orange zest, lime juice, and orange juice to the bowl. Then throw in the chopped cilantro and strawberries, and stir. Season with salt to taste. Sprinkle the finished guacamole with chopped strawberries. Makes 6 servings.
