Some celebrities can pull off good looks on their own, some have gotten better after using stylists at different points but are they must-have creatives for Nigerian celebrities or not?
A celebrity should work with a stylist everytime and this doesn't leave out Nigerian celebs.
Though stylists shouldn't be hired by celebrities alone as everyday people (as long as you can afford the services) need this fashion creatives as well, they aren't a sort of luxury to be restricted to celebrities alone as they come with a lot of 'image making' effect!
While there's no denying some celebrities can pull off good looks on their own and some have gotten better after using stylists at different points, anyone in public eye should employ the services of a professional stylist at least once in a while especially when there's a need to (photoshoots, TV appearances etc).

Hiring a stylist/seeking the opinion/expertise of a stylist guides to know what works for you (and your body shape and type), It's also a way to explore your personal style even the things you don't know would work!
Other bits the stylist brings to the table includes help you sort your buying decision; so for instance, you stop buying what you don't need, stop wearing what you shouldn't, be appropriate for occasion (work or play) and the list goes on.
I spoke with two top stylists Rhoda Ebun and Sharon Ojong, this 'stylish styling' duo are personal stylists to top celebrities, style editorial works/lookbooks and are consultants for fashion brands and so on.

On why Nigerian celebrities or anyone at all need a stylist?
Sharon Ojong - Stylists help you build a consistent and recognizable image by simply helping you pick clothing that shows the world who you are.
Rhoda Ebun - There’s a lot of pressure that comes with being in the spot light especially as celebrity. The industry is very superficial and you are judged by how you dress first before anything else. Your audience want to relate first with your style, then your talent before connecting with you on a deeper level. So if you choose to live this life, or perhaps, this life has chosen you, then you need to take your looks seriously. To some people looking good comes naturally to them whilst to others, they need a little help. Whichever category you find yourself, you’ll probably still need to hire a stylist. Celebrities need to hire stylists for several reasons: To look their best; to help them create an identifiable personal style that is aligned to their brand; to coordinate their wardrobe and so on. Looking good as celebrities affect their brand perception positively and you need a stylist on your team to contribute to your brand perception.
For any regular person, you would want to hire a stylist if you want to make a wardrobe transition or if you are going through body and lifestyle changes.

The role of the stylist in the present day?
Sharon Ojong - There are different kinds of fashion stylists.
a) Editorial Stylist who makes or put together clothes from designers for a fashion magazine editorial pages.
b) Costume Designer who designs, sews, and oversees all the costumes for a film
c) And the most confusing, Wardrobe Stylist (Wardrobe Consultant) and Personal Stylist (Image Consultant)
A wardrobe stylist supplies and curates the clothing and accessories for all the models on a commercial photo or video shoot, and are responsible for the care, pinning to fit, and steaming of the garments.
While a personal Stylist’s main priority is to address/define/refine a person’s image through clothing and accessories, curate their closets, help individual shop and most times pull pieces from designers and give suggestions for hair, makeup, accessories for events.
Rhoda Ebun - The role of the stylist is guide his/her client on what to wear and how to wear. Basically, the role of the stylist is to help clients look their best all the time.
On how affordable the service is or isn't?
Sharon Ojong - It’s a service based on client’s budget and stylist’s taste. If client wants to look like Rita Dominic or want a reputable style image like Eku Edewor, you need to have a budget like these guys.
Rhoda Ebun - The service is affordable; but affordable is relative. So it all depends on the stylist, the prospective client and the exact service required.
