CAC: 1 beneficial tradition other denominations can learn from this church

Nigerian churches have something beneficial to learn from the General overseer of Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C), Agbala-Itura, S.K. Abiara

Other churches have something important to gain from Prophet Samuel Kayode Abiara.

Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C) has something great to teach other denominations.

Leaders of other churches need to take a cue from C.A.C on how to retire and step down gracefully.

During a recent interview with Seyi Sokoya of Nigerian Tribune, the outgoing General Evangelist of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Prophet Samuel Kayode Abiara, revealed how uncomplicated the resignation process was.

According to him, the news of his retirement as the general evangelist of the CAC is not a big deal because he was aware of the church’s laws and did not mind obeying them.

He said, “The news did not come as a shock because I was aware of the development. It was time for me to retire from the office, according to the Constitution of the church. I clocked 75 in August, and I am expected to quit the office, as it is clearly stated in the constitution.

"So, as a good leader, I am delighted to vacate the office for another person to take over. I am very happy stepping down; it is not a personal office. I am moving into another chapter of evangelism. I am now General Evangelist for all churches, irrespective of denomination, across the world. My doors are open to any church, organisation, whether large or small, and I would oblige, without any form of hesitation, to join the people of God to further propagate the gospel of Christ.”

Prophet Abiara added that he was the one that informed the church of his impending retirement before he clocked 75. Shocking, right?

In his words, “It is biblical to obey the voice of God and that of authority. It is ideal to comply with stated laws and obligations. In fact, I was the first person to formally inform the church authority about my retirement, even before I clocked 75.

"I wrote a letter in April that I would retire in August because I didn’t want them to be the ones to notify me. It was not as if I was in a hurry to resign, I just wanted to let them know that I was abiding by the rules and regulations of the church and they were very surprised at my decision…”

Recently, the Christendom faced some drama over the failed implementation of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) law in January 2017.

This taught us two things. One, that our Nigerian church leaders are not interested in stepping down anytime soon. They would prefer to stay there for as long as they can. Secondly, their church members are in support of this.

This is quite sad considering the fact that there is no need for clerics to drag their churches through drama just because they do not want to step down from leadership positions.

Anyone in this situation should definitely take Prophet Abiara’s much-needed advice.

This is a simple example for all those in positions of power to take a cue from. They must act in accordance with their constitutions and not in any way try to cause a commotion. Staying put in power is not in any way appropriate. I resigned at the right time and I am happy with my decision and I am sure that people are happy with the development,” he said.

Church leaders definitely need to learn from this wise man and his church.

Prophet Samuel Kayode Abiara is the founder of The Christ Apostolic Church, Agbala Itura. He was called into evangelism in 1963. Since then, he has succeeded in turning the church into one of the most popular ministries in Nigeria.

He became the General Evangelist, CAC (Worldwide) in December 2006. Abiara is succeeded by Prophet Hezekiah Oluboye Oladeji.

The new successor will be assisted by his deputy, Prophet Emmanuel Olatoro Odejobi.
