Football Star Michael Bennett Accused Of False Racial Profile Claims Against Police — The NFL Responds!

As we reported, on August 27 after the Mayweather-McGregor fight in Las Vegas, Seattle Seahawks star Michael Bennett was walking back to his hotel when cops singled him out after gunshots were heard in the area.

On Wednesday, he published a letter on social media accusing authorities of "excessive use of force," and solely targeting him "for no other reason that I am black."

That same day, the Las Vegas Metro Police Dept. undersheriff Kevin McMahill held a press conference justifying their decision to confront the football player, and says there is "no evidence that race played any role in this incident."

On Thursday, the president of the Las Vegas Police Protective Association -- Nevada's largest police interest group -- wrote an open letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell demanding they take action against the 31-year-old and his "false allegations."

The letter read:

"On behalf of the rank and file members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, I request that you conduct an investigation, and take appropriate action, into Michael Bennett's obvious false allegations against our officers... While the NFL may condone Bennett's disrespect for our American Flag, and everything it symbolizes, we hope the League will not ignore Bennett's false accusations against our police officers."

Additionally, the organization says Michael's claims of racism are "offensive to the men and women of law enforcement."

Later that day, an NFL spokesman responded to the union's letter and said there is "no basis for an NFL investigation" and that Bennett didn't violate their personal code of conduct.

NAACP Las Vegas also released a statement where they side with the athlete, and believe there was "an overreaction by the officer."

We just hope this situation never happens again!
