Massive Apple Watch 3 LTE leak gives us our first look

The Apple Watch 3, or at least an Apple Watch LTE, will be unveiled at Tuesday's iPhone 8 launch event, according to new leaks published today.

How do we know this? Apple's secrets are apparently all over the code of its final leaked iOS 11 beta for developers, known as the Gold Master or GM version.

The LTE Apple Watch won't look very different from the current Apple Watch 2, reports 9to5Mac, citing a leaked new Apple Watch 3 pairing screen in iOS 11.

The Digital Crown (the circular button) on the side of this supposed Apple Watch 3 is accented in red, and its watch face includes antenna signal strength dots.

Digging deeper, its Control Center menu, where quick settings are located, contains a toggle for turning data on and off.

It's not a full design refresh on the outside, though. That can be a good thing for some: all existing Apple Watch bands are expected to be compatible with the new smartwatch.

Apple Watch 3 data plans detailed

The best Apple Watch 3 feature will be its LTE cellular network connectivity, which will enable it to make and receive calls and data without an iPhone.

The same iOS 11 code indicates that your iPhone and the Apple Watch will share the same number, allowing you to go phone-free and still get calls normally.

Carriers in the US had a dry run of when the Samsung Gear S3 frontier and LG Watch Sport launched with AT&T NumberSync and Verizon NumberShare.

However, you may get a special deal when the iPhone 8 and Apple Watch LTE launch. 9to5Mac points out carriers are poised to offer a free month of service and low rates in the beginning.

For the Android watch, it was a $5 to $10 device fee every month depending on the carrier and it then shared your normal phone data allotment.

More Apple Watch 3 and iPhone 8 news to come

LTE data is the biggest, but likely not the only Apple Watch 3 highlight to expect on Tuesday. We are also eager to see if the new watch does sleep tracking. Apple, after all, did buy a sleep tracking company in May.

And while the Apple Watch 3 design appears to be no different from previous generation watches, the new Apple Watch could be slightly thinner (Watch 3 actually got thicker) or go the other way and include more battery life to support its constant LTE connection.

Be sure to read up on what to expect from the iPhone 8 launch event and find out how to watch the iPhone 8 livestream before Tuesday.
