The Nigerian hosts outclassed the reigning African champions to beat them 4-0 in Uyo.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria beat the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon 4-0 in their Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier encounter in the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Friday, September 1, 2017.
After Cameroon controlled the early proceedings of the game without any clear-cut chances, Odion Ighalo put the Super Eagles ahead with a brilliant run onto a Mikel Jon Obi pass which saw him turn Cameroonian centre back Michael Ngadeu Ngadjui, before slotting pass goalkeeper, Fabrice Ondoa.
With the Cameroonian team still struggling to cause the Nigerian defence any real trouble, Mikel Obi's goal in the 41st minute ensured the Nigerian team went into the dressing room at halftime with a two-goal advantage.
After missing an opportunity to put Ighalo clean through with the goalkeeper, Victor Moses whipped in a cross that Mikel Obi smashed into the roof of the net to make the game 2-0.
Moses put the hosts out of sight in the 55th minute with a brilliant counter attacking run that resulted in him whipping the ball into the back of the net after a return pass from Moses Simon to make the game 3 nil.
Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho effectively put the game past Cameroon after he nodded in at the near post from a Simon cross to make it 4-0 late in the game.
The win sees Nigeria go seven points clear of Cameroon on the table with only one team set to qualify for the finals in Russia.
