Twitter dropped a surprise announcement on Tuesday that once again, it's considering doing away with the 140 character limit.
This time instead of threatening users with unlimited Donald Trump tirades, the social media giant is simply doubling up from 140 to 280.

It's only an experiment for now, "available to a small group" of tweeters at first, but the change could well go universal.
For the most part, the reaction is NOT positive!
For some it ruins the charm, for some it means more detailed harassment and threats, for Chrissy Teigen it's... well, let her and all the other unhappy users tell you themselves:
literally my only talent was being able to think of tweets exactly 140 characters long. i don't know if I will be able to alter this to 280.
— christine teigen (@chrissyteigen) September 26, 2017
for the record, that was 140 characters.

Instead of working on ridding the Nazis & bots from their platform, Twitter is allowing 280 characters. WTF

Oh cool, 280 character death threats instead of 140.

users: I’m being harassed
jack: uh huh
users: by nazis
jack:..
users: can you do something
jack: what if we gave them 280 characters

In case anyone is wondering why 280 characters is a bad idea, it's because THE TWEET IS NOW TOO LONG TO FIT ON TWITTER pic.twitter.com/WaUOMLAYiQ

A small group can now tweet 280 characters instead of 140. Let's hope Trump is NOT a member of this small group. https://t.co/MNlhXFOSUW

TBH I'm just hoping nobody tells Trump about the 280 characters.

only three Republicans need to come out against the 280 character limit proposal to effectively kill it in the Senate

Us: Ban the Nazis, take harassment seriously & stop that cheddar demon from declaring war on ur app
Twitter: ...so you want 280 characters?
— Kendra W✨ (@kendrawcandraw) September 26, 2017
Hi @jack - blogs already exist; no reason to go to 280 characters. If something can't be fit into 140, it merely shows the writer's lack of

The 280-character limit is a terrible idea. The whole beauty of Twitter is that it forces you to express your ideas concisely (1/47)
