Do it on kettlebells to add your abs into the mix.
Almost every gym-going guy knows the feeling: Regardless of your workout plan or program, sometimes you walk into that weight room and just want to train arms.
Well, there’s nothing wrong with that. In fact, if you’ve picked up a copy of Men’s Health over the past 29 years, you know we’re kind of big on arm workouts.
So, today, we’re going to enable your last-minute workout flakery. After all, you’re not bailing on your workout—you’re just adjusting it to focus on the body part that happens to look great in photos, attract the attention of women, and let those around you know that “yes, bro, I do even lift.”
Watch the video above to see Joey Thurman, a trainer and the author of 365 Health and Fitness Hacks That Could Save Your Life, demonstrate a combination exercise he calls the floating pushup dip.
As the name suggests, the exercise combines two popular movements, the pushup (the incline pushup, technically) and the dip. The result is an exercise that hits the triceps with a one-two punch (at least, that's what it feels like) while also working both the upper and lower chest.
All you need to perform this move is two benches of the same height. That said, as you progress you can level up to other equipment to make the exercise more challenging.
“You can use two large dumbbells,” Thurman says. “Or, to make it even harder, you could use kettlebells to force more stability.”
So, there you have it—a solid feel-good exercise to anchor a sporadic look-good workout. Of course, you could also work this move into your regular workouts. “Try doing this on chest day,” Thurman suggests. “It gets that chest going, works on stability, and you’re going to look much better on the beach.”
You know what else looks much better on the beach? Abs. Everyone has them—you just need to burn enough fat to see them. Reveal your six pack with the cutting-edge ANARCHY ABS training program from Men's Health.
