Here's what to know before you get inked like Bieber.
Justin Bieber raised some eyebrows over the weekend after revealing his latest tattoo.
In a brief Instagram video posted on Saturday, the 23-year-old Canadian singer showed off a huge new tattoo covering his entire torso—and man, is his new ink something.
The tattoo, complete with gargoyles, skeletons and other gothic elements, is the work of “Bang Bang” McCurdy, a New York City-based tattoo artist who, according to People, often tattoos celebrities. McCurdy also documented the Bieber tattoo experience writing on Instagram, “Thank you for the trust. Twenty-six hours over three consecutive days is the most I've ever tattooed anyone in my 13-year career. You're tough as nails man!”
This isn’t Bieber’s first tattoo. In fact the “Love Yourself” singer has more than 50 of them. However, it appears the Biebs decided to cover up a few of his old tattoos, including a crown that once adorned his chest, the word “forgiveness,” a tattoo that said “son of God,” and his very first tattoo, which was a tiny bird on his hip, with this new gothic piece.
If you’re thinking about getting a Bieber-sized tattoo—or, you know, something smaller—it’s best to think about it for a few weeks before you actually pull the tattoo gun trigger.
A 2015 Harris Poll found that nearly one-fourth (23%) of those with tattoos said they regret getting one. Moreover, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery noted that 45,224 people had their tattoos removed in 2013 (which costs a pretty penny).
If you’re determined to get a tattoo, there are a few more things to consider before booking an appointment.
According to a study published in the journal Contact Dermatitis, 10 percent of people who got tattoos experienced a negative reaction like itching or swelling. Skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema can pose issues, as can certain medications. If you want to prevent adverse reactions from happening to you, here are 7 things to know before you get a tattoo.
