OnePlus 5T possibly appears in yet another leaked image

The leaks for the so-called OnePlus 5T smartphone continue to drop like rain through a rotten roof, and the latest one comes from a "trusted source" who spoke with Android Authority.

Unfortunately, it's mainly a dark, artsy teaser image (below) that doesn't give away many details, but there's enough on display here to reasonably predict that the OnePus 5T will follow the current trend that favors thin bezels and possibly lack a visible front fingerprint scanner.

It's hard to tell the device's dimensions from the angle of the photo, but it looks as though the device will feature an 18:9 aspect ratio, which marks a step up from the 16:9 display found on the hard-to-find OnePlus 5.

The new image resembles other leaks we've seen lately that dropped on the Chinese social media site Weibo over the weekend. The first set was blurry but detailed enough to make out the thin bezels and possible 18:9 aspect ratio, while the second set offers what looks like proper retail product photos.

There's even enough detail in the last set to suggest that the fingerprint scanner for the OnePlus 5T– if that, in fact, is what it's called – will now be positioned on the device's back.

But, what's inside?

Unfortunately, all the leaks provided so far only show the shifts in design; they reveal no hints about what OnePlus might have done to tweak the insides.

Keep in mind that the use of the name "OnePlus 5T" is built on the assumption that OnePlus intends to release a modestly upgraded device for the OnePlus 5, as the Chinese manufacturer did last year with the OnePlus 3T. As we've said in our previous coverage, though, it seems odd that there wouldn't be more leaks by now if OnePlus is really aiming for an iterative November release again.

Couple that with the substantially different design of the the device we see in these photos, and it's possible we're looking at an entirely different phone: the OnePlus 6.

That's still speculation, of course, but if you're in the market for a new smartphone and you like what you see here more than the other current offerings on the table, it might be wise to hold off your purchase for a couple more months until we learn more.
