Looking at the Spurs goal again: It seems Harry Kane didn’t get any sort of touch on the ball before Raphael Varane shinned it past his own keeper. The Spurs striker looked a smidge offside as he began his run across the bows of the Real Madrid defender towards the near post, got in front of his man but failed to get a touch on the ball. It didn’t matter.
Other half-time replays show that Fernando Llorente should definitely have got a penalty when Casemiro hooked his leg during the scramble following the corner I described in the 22nd minute, while the needless Serge Aurier challenge on Toni Kroos that led to Real Madrid’s penalty was just dimwitted. The Spurs full-back had no business diving in on Kroos on the edge of his six-yard box, as the German scrambled to get the ball out from under his feet.
