Australia will face Honduras for a spot at next year’s World Cup, their intercontinental fate confirmed after a drama-packed final Concacaf matchday.
The United States were eliminated after a 2-1 loss to stragglers Trinidad and Tobago, while Panama’s 2-1 win over Costa Rica lifted them into third to secure automatic qualification and Honduras upset group winners Mexico 3-2.
The Socceroos’ final qualifying tie will be played over two legs in a home-and-away series between 6 November and 14, with the second leg confirmed for Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.
