Failure to raise Sh30 for the hospital card denied the rape victim access to medical care
A teenage girl was chased from a Kisumu County hospital when she approached the medical facility for help after a horrific 8-hour rape ordeal in the hands of six rapists.
The girl was turned away from Kisumu’s Ahero Sub-County Hospital after she failed to raise Sh 30 for the hospital card, The Standard reported Sunday.
The class seven orphaned girl was heading home from her casual work job in a Kisumu town based hotel on Tuesday evening when the six rapists kidnapped her, rapped her overnight before leaving her weak on Wednesday at 5 am.
“I screamed for help but they hit and placed a knife on my neck, threatening to kill me if I made more noise,” she narrated amid sobs.
She added: “I stayed there till morning, because it was too dark to try to do anything or even go anywhere.”
On Wednesday at 5am, the six men ordered her to soak her clothes in water and wash the blood stains that had spilled on them.
She says she went to seek treatment at Ahero Sub-County Hospital where she claimed to have been told that she could not be treated if she did not buy the treatment card worth Sh30.
On Thursday morning, the victim could not bear the pain and anguish anymore. She reported her ordeal to the Nyando sub-county Nyumba Kumi initiative chairman Hezekiah Omanga.
