This little girl wouldn't leave me alone, she was begging and running after me.
On my way back home, I was debating in my mind. ‘Should I climb the bridge or just cross under like every other person.’
I contemplated this action of behaving as a good Nigerian citizen because when, previously I had climbed the bridge, by the time i came down, those agberos were looking at me like one strange girl so, I had decided that from that day on, I would cross under the bridge like all others.
Then, suddenly a little girl tapped me. I was still wondering who she was before I realized that she was begging me. I decided to walk away because, I had been almost duped once for acting like a good Samaritan but this little girl wouldn't leave me alone, she was begging and running after me.
I stopped and looked around, there were her parents sitting and doing nothing, they were not even bothered about their little girl who was busy chasing people. Perhaps, they just want her to bring the money that's all.
I looked at this little girl but she wouldn’t know I didn’t have enough cash with me and I could feel that there was no way she was going to let me go without taking whatever I could give. I was so embarrassed because, I felt she was drawing attention to me more than I expected.
I just could not bear it anymore, I looked into my bag and just gave her what I could give out of my transport fare, so she would be gone.
I wonder. Why do they use children?
Because, there was no way I was going to avoid her without feeling guilty. Do they know all these stuff that's why they use them for their begging business?
Now, every time I pass that area I remember that day and I pray never to meet her again, I couldn’t face another such embarrassing scene.
They don't understand or do they?
