Buhari: President sympathises with victims of recent Borno attacks

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari made tackling corruption one of the key priorities of his government, but there have been more high-profile arrests than convictions

Buhari assured that the Intelligence Fusion Center which is being set up in Maiduguri would help stop future attacks by Boko Haram.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his sympathy to the families of the victims of the bomb attacks in Biu, Borno State on Saturday, December 2, 2017.

The twin blasts were said to have occurred intermittently at the entrance of a market in Biu and at the yam section of the market respectively.

The police had said 13 persons died in the twin blasts while 53 were injured.

Although other accounts said 15 people died and some said the death toll ran into dozens.

In a condolence message posted on Twitter on Sunday, December 3, Buhari assured that the Intelligence Fusion Center which is being set up in Maiduguri would help stop future attacks by Boko Haram on soft targets.

"My condolences to the families of the victims of the bomb attacks in Biu yesterday. I'm confident that the Intelligence Fusion Center we're setting up in Maiduguri will help us stay ahead of Boko Haram's desperate attacks on soft targets. May the souls of the dead rest in peace," the President said.

Biu is one of the few Borno towns where Boko Haram has never captured and controlled.

The terrorists, however, attempted to capture the Biu Cantonment in 2015 but failed - the attack left many dead.
