University of Nigeria Nsukka: UNN partners Huawei to establish ICT Academy

UNN VC believes Huawei Academy would benefit from whatever it invests in the University both from workers and students.

 

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a Chinese company, Huawei to establish an academy for Information and Communication Technology.

Prof. Benjamin Ozumba, the Vice Chancellor of the University signed on behalf of the institution while the Channel Service Project Manager, Simon Zhang signed for Huawei.

Commenting on the initiative, Prof. Ozumba said Huawei Academy would benefit from whatever it invests in the University both from workers and students.

He said, “ICT is the backbone of technology and innovations in every part of the world. Both UNN and Huawei will benefit from the MoU.

The university has forty-five thousand students. ‎I am optimistic that UNN will live up to the expectations contained in the MoU.

 

“Whatever Huawei will invest in UNN, it will reap the benefits.‎ UNN does not have simulators, but with Huawei academy in UNN the university will start using simulators.

The also Vice-Chancellor commended Huawei for finding the university worthy of its Academy saying the students and staff are in support of the initiative.

On his part, Zhang representing Huawei said the University of Nigeria, Nsukka is the first school where Huawei would establish its academy in  Nigeria.

“We are establishing our first Huawei academy in UNN; and from here, we will reach other universities in Nigeria. “I thank the VC and university management for their approval of the establishment of the academy in UNN,

UNN setting the pace in ICT

Barely two months ago, the University set up laptop assembly plant named Lion Plant Assembly Complex.

 

The plant which was commissioned by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa'ad Abubakar III on Friday, October 6, 2017.

The locally situated assembly plant is expected to produce up to a 100,000 laptops annually, which should go a long way in developing the skills and springing up more equipped engineers out of the university.
