Wizkid: "That's why I don't attend these shows," singer blasts blasts organizers who give African acts awards backstage

Wizkid speaks against African acts receiving international awards backstage.

Wizkid has spoken against international award organisers who give awards to African artists backstage.

The singer in the past 3 years have won a number of international honours including the iHeart awards, BET, MTV Europe Music Awards, the MOBOs and more.

Most international awards have categories for African acts but the trend for most of these awards is to give the African awards backstage, away from the main show.

The singer who recently held a concert in Uganda spoke about the trend in a press conference. The video was shared by a local TV station, NBS Television.

"This is why I don't go for those shows," Wizkid said in response to a reporter. "...that is what I do, I don't take nonsense from anyone trying to look down on Africa."

"If you are not going to show us the same love you show your international artists, if you are not going to show us that same love on the main stage, then don't show us any love at all, we don't want it. We have ours, and we are content with our own people," he stressed.

Wizkid recently beat Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Cardi B and others to win the Best International Act award at the just ended Music of Black Origin ( MOBO ) Awards.

The award which was held in Leeds at the First Direct Arena in the United Kingdom on November 29 2017, saw thrilling performances from top notch artist around the globe including Cardi B, American singer, Stormzy, Davido and a lot more.
