We take a look at how the Super Eagles players rated in 2-1 win over Angola.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday, January 28 came from a goal down to beat Angola 2-1 to progress to the semi-final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) but how do we rate the players from the game?
We take a look at the performance of each player and score them.
Goalkeeper: Ikechukwu Ezenwa
Ezenwa showed his maturity in the game and pull up a couple of excellent saves to keep Nigeria in the game. Not at fault for the goal he conceded although many quarters blame him for rushing out quickly from his line. A great display nonetheless for the 2018 FIFA World Cup hopeful.
8/10
Right-back: Osas Okoro
A fine performance from the Enugu Rangers star who was once again very dangerous from the right-hand side. Defended well again and assisted Nigeria’s equaliser with a fine cross which Anthony Okpotu converted.
7/10
Centre-back: Stephen Eze
Solid again from the big man although he was caught out of position in the lead up to the Angolans’ goal. He combined well with his partner and was very assuring.
7/10
Centre-back: Kalu Orji
Started well but got injured very early on in the game. Looks like he would be out for a while, will be a huge miss in Morocco.
4/10.
Left-back: Ikouwem Udoh
Started his first game in the tournament in place of Daniel James and put in a fantastic shift. He was quick and very solid, defending well and also supporting the attack. What a tournament debut for him.
7..5/10
Midfield: Emeka Atuloma
Did his job protecting the Super Eagles defence and was very solid with his tackles and interceptions. Although wasteful in possession, Atuloma did his primary job which was to defend from midfield.
7/10
Midfield: Dayo Ojo
Another solid performer in midfield, Ojo defended well and also helped out in the attack. Made things very difficult for the Angolans with his energetic pressing.
7/10
Midfield: Rabiu Ali
After a shaky start at CHAN 2018, Ali is gradually getting into his grove and had his best game of in the tournament. Assisted Nigeria’s equalisers and was in control of the midfield as the Super Eagles dominated the game.
7/10
Forward: Emeka Ogbuh
Ogbhu was not at his best in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Angola. Although he was impressive in his pressing and running, he didn’t do much with the ball and his final balls were poor.
6/10
Forward: Sunday Faleye
Did his best which wasn’t enough before his elbow injury. He was mobile and tried to link up with Okpotu before his injury.
5/10
Striker: Anthony Okpotu
Another player who has improved during the course of the tournament. Okpotu was a livewire in the Angolans attack. Capped his performance with a goal.
7/10
Substitutes
Centra-defence: Danladi Timothy
Came in for the injured Kalu Orji and was very jittery. His hasty clearances ricocheted off an Angolan player Vladimir Va to score. He didn’t exude enough confidence when he came in but grew into the game.
6/10
Forward: Gabriel Okechukwu
Came on in the 60th minute and got the winning goal in extra-time. He was very dangerous when he came in for the injured Faleye. He hit the post in regular time before hitting the winner in extra-time.
7/10
Forward: Augustine Oladapo
Was very energetic when he came on and got into very promising positions although his final balls let him down. Defended well also
5/10
