Fulani Herdsmen: Plateau police confirm 3 dead in Bassa LG

3 killed as Fulani herdsmen attack Plateau village

The Plateau police command’s spokesman, Matthias Tyopev also told newsmen that the incident is under investigation.

The Plateau state police command has confirmed that three people were killed in Jebu Miango Village of Bassa Local Government Area.

According to Punch, the people lost their lives when suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked the village on Saturday. February 10, 2018.

The Plateau police command’s spokesman, Matthias Tyopev also told newsmen that the incident is under investigation.

Tyopev said “On Saturday, at about 20:00 hours, the Divisional Police Officer in Bassa Division got information that at about 19:45 hours of the same day that a gang of unknown gunmen laid ambush on the road between DTV and Jamraf settlement in Jebu Miango Village, Bassa LGA. They were attacking unsuspecting commuters.

“After receiving the information, the DPO led a patrol team to the scene. But on sighting the police vehicle, the armed men took to their heels and disappeared into the nearby bushes.

“The police combed the area, but the bandits were not found since they spotted the police from a far distance and ran very fast. At the scene, three corpses were recovered who were killed by the gunmen. A motorcycle was also recovered from the scene.

“Also recovered from the scene were 24 expended shells of 7.62mm ammunitions. Photographs of the dead bodies were taken. No suspect has been arrested yet, while investigation is in progress.”

Herdsmen take over Ondo LG Secretariat

On Tuesday, February 13, 2018, reports say Fulani herdsmen stormed the Akure South local government secretariat of Ondo and sacked workers from their offices.

Eyewitnesses also said that one of the workers was machete by the rampaging herdsmen.

It took the joint efforts of the Ondo state police command and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to restore normalcy.
