The popular satellite TV service may be shutting down operations in Nigeria soon.
On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) notified the management of MultiChoice, owner of DSTV and GOTV, may stop operation in Nigeria because it would not renew its license which expires in June 2019.
NBC, which is a regulatory body, explained in a letter to MultiChoice that the license issued to MultiChoice in 2014 will not be renewed because it was not in line with Digital Switch Over (DSO) White Paper.
It was also noted that if MultiChoice still wishes to continue to operate in Nigeria beyond 2019 then it would have to go to licensed Signal Distribution company, Pinnacle Communications Ltd.
In the past, GOTV has been accused of being used as a channel to siphon foreign exchange from Nigeria by its parent company, the South African MultiChoice DSTV.
MultiChoice digital satellite TV service, one of the most popular providers in Nigeria, offers various packages and consumer channels, accessible on a variety of platforms like DSTV and GOTV.
