tHE IAAF overpaid their annual grants to AFN and now wants N48.6M of the money back.
World athletics body, the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) are asking the Athletics Federations of Nigeria (AFN) for N48.6m ($135,000) after they overpaid the federation.
The IAAF intended to pay the AFN N5.4m ($15,000) as it’s annual grants to member federations for the year 2017.
While sending the money, the IAAF mistakenly sent N54m ($150,000) and now wants the extra back after discovering their mistake.
AFN have 'no idea' about the money
According to Guardian, the AFN have claimed that they have no clue about the money that was sent to them.
“I think the money came just when we were taking over from the past administration,” AFN Vice President, Olamide George told Guardian.
“But the truth is that it is only the AFN secretary who knows how he received the IAAF money.
“If the money was paid into AFN account, it could have gone through the Treasury Single Account (TSA). I am sure the secretary used his personal account to collect the money from IAAF, which I think is wrong.
“The secretary was transferred from AFN before, but the sports minister (Solomon Dalung) brought him back. They should tell Nigerians what happened to the IAAF money.
“I cannot be part of AFN board and all sorts of things are happening behind the scene. We must not fold our hands until IAAF sanctions Nigeria because of this issue.”
