MFM FC have the first leg advantage over MC Alger in a CAF Champions League qualifier
2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) runners up MFM FC defeated MC Alger of Algeria 2 - 1 in a 2018 CAF Champions League qualifier.
The Champions League game was played at the Agege soccer temple in Lagos, as MFM head coach Fidelis Olechukwu made some changes to the team that beat AS Bamako to progress to the next round.
The hosts took the lead through a penalty converted by Akuneto Chijioke in the 36th minute.
The first ended 1 - 0 in favour of the Lagos based side.
The away side equalised through Amachi Aziovez in the 56th minute of the second half, as MC Alger continued to search for a winner.
Monsuru Bashiru scored what turned out to be the winner for MFM in the 84th minute.
It ended 2 - 1 in favour of MFM going into the second leg.
The results comes after Plateau United lost 4 - 2 to Etoile du Sahel in Tunisia.
The result means that for MFM to progress to the money spinning group stage of the CAF Champions League they have to ensure that they get at least a draw when they travel to Algeria for the second leg.
MFM FC will host MC Alger in the return fixture on Friday, March 16.
