Kirk Cousins did not get a new contract before the NFL’s franchise tag deadline passed this afternoon, which means he’ll play the 2017-18 season on a one-year deal before becoming a free agent next summer. Washington president Bruce Allen detailed the team’s effort to lock up their QB, claiming that they offered him a deal with $53 million guaranteed. The offer seems incredibly generous, but it’s only a bit more than Cousins would have made if the team kept franchising him over and over again.
More importantly, he called him “Kurt” repeatedly.
ESPN asked Washington why the team’s president didn’t seem to know his quarterback’s name. Their explanation?
Asked about Allen’s pronunciation of Cousins’ first name, a team spokesman said it sounded that way because of the Redskins president’s accent.
What a lovely team.
