Tonight’s Blue Jays-Red Sox game started with a frightening first inning for home-plate umpire Chris Segal, who was hit in the head by Josh Donaldson’s bat when the third baseman lost his grip.
Segal went down immediately and was slow to get up, but he stood up on his own after a few moments and could be seen smiling and talking with his fellow umpires before putting his mask back on and getting back behind the plate to remain in the game.
Donaldson struck out. (Swinging on a foul tip, not called.)
