With this facility in the region, rate of medical tourism to some notable Asian countries will reduce drastically.
A Ghanaian investment firm, Eco Medical Village Limited has signed a financing agreement with Milost Global Inc. towards building a state-of-the-art medical facility in Accra, Ghana.
The Eco-Medical Hospital will be a 1,100 bed international hospital complex. It aims at providing qualitative tertiary medical care as well as reducing medical tourists among West Africa countries.
Mr Peter Ahiekpor, CEO of Eco Medical Village Limited noted that the project would be a significant upgrade in the health care sector in the region.
"We take this opportunity to thank our funding partners especially Milost Global Inc. for the confidence shown in this flagship project, the first amongst many.”
“Eco Medical Village aims to provide world class health facilities and services to the ECOWAS region,” Ahiekpor said.
Upon completion, the $300 million health care facility would be the largest private hospital in West Africa.
The major facility is planned to be situated in Accra, while satellite units would be established in other West African countries.
Health care system is generally poor in many African countries, due to inadequate funding by the government. In 2015, 40,000 Nigerians visited India with half of them for medical reasons.
Some of these treatments include transplant and dental surgery, joint replacement among others.
