Chained down by injustice, corruption and poverty.
In the previous blog, “the take over generation “, I wrote that the world tends to agree with the western classification of generations and descriptions of traits, which are familiar with each one.
The silent generation represents people born between 1925 and 1964; the youngest is 72 and the oldest 92 years.
The Baby Boomer generation represents people born between 1946 and 1964. The youngest is 53 , while the oldest “baby boomer” should be 71 this year.
Generation X is people born between 1965 and 1979 with the youngest being 38 and oldest, 52.
Xennials are between 1975 and 1985, the oldest is 42 and the youngest, 32 years.
We then have the Millennials (or Generation Y), who are born between 1980 and 1995. The youngest is 22 and the oldest is 37 years.
The iGen (for obvious reasons, LOL) or Generation Z is between 1996 and 2010. The oldest here is 21 and the youngest 7 years old.
The last generation is Gen Alpha, which is between 2011 and 2025. The oldest is 6.
As stated in the previous blog, there is an urgent need for generation X, Xennials and Millenials to take hold of the reins of governance and leadership in Africa. One value of utmost important for any good leader is integrity. This is simply defined as the quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.
Below is a poem that I wrote for a group of children , belonging to Generation Z (7-21years), that I Mentor.
SPOKEN WORD FOR GENERATION Y & Z
I seek a quality
Imbedded in our Identity
Yet so hidden for sight to see
Hidden in the darkness, you see.
Chained down by injustice, corruption and poverty
Oh! But my Generation will do
What the Generation past has failed to do
Yes we will shine as light and darkness will flee
And the Light will reveal this Identity
The quality that I seek will be found in me
Because this quality, Integrity, is imbedded in me!
Auntybspeaks.com gud to talk!
